Reading Outside: Your Favourite Books and Authors

Reading Outside: Your Favourite Books and AuthorsOne of the things I love to do during the summer is to sit outside and read a few books. Reading is a form of escapism from reality and it helps me to unwind after a busy day, but it’s also something none of us seem to do enough of.

There are a wide range of books out there and there’s sure to be something for everyone. Even if you struggle to read, you’ll still be able to find something that’s suitable for you and you’re bound to love.

When the Weather’s Good

As I mentioned before, I like to sit outside when the weather is good. I recently bought some new teak patio furniture as the weather seems to be getting better. This furniture has added a whole new dimension to my garden and makes it look even cozier than before. It’s not really been warm enough yet for me to be able to sit there for hours at a time, but it won’t be long I’m sure.

When I go out I take a cup of tea or a cold drink with me, then I set them down on the table and prepare to read. I’ll have my current read with me and a sun hat if needs be, and I’ll just read and enter a whole new world, wonderful.

Reading Outside: Your Favourite Books and AuthorsReading is for Everyone

Reading is definitely for everyone as there’s no reason why anyone shouldn’t enjoy it. Books are becoming increasingly popular thanks to the likes of movies such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings among others. These movies encourage children and adults alike to pick up books and read them, even if they haven’t read very much before.

We are all taught to read at school yet many of us aren’t as an accomplished reader as we would like to be. Unfortunately there are still those who don’t know how to read, which means they have to try extra hard to get by.

Many people in this country cannot read because no-one taught them particularly well, if at all. Being unable to read is by no means an indicator of a lack of intelligence it just means they didn’t have the opportunity to progress as well as they may have liked.

Education Failed Her

When I used to live in Newcastle I met a 30-something lady who could just about get by with her level of reading. This lady was very capable at a lot of things, but education had failed her and reading was a struggle. One day her partner decided he would help her read, and bit by bit she soon had the confidence and ability to read a wide range of books. What’s more is she no longer had to struggle to read shopping lists, directions or anything else we all take for granted. Now she reads a book most days and has been successful in her job application.

So you see, being able to sit outside and read is not only a pleasure but it can also be a privilege, especially for those who have struggled in the past.
